Seasonal changes and your skin

Has the cooler weather got your skin feeling dry or dehydrated?

Dryness, tightness and flaky skin is common in cooler months due to lower humidity, heating and cold temperatures. In fact, your skin loses more than 25 percent of its ability to hold moisture in the cooler months, eek!

Dehydration is also more common during the colder months, as there is less moisture in the air to draw into the skin, meaning our skin can start to look a little bit dull, lacking that healthy ‘glow’. When we lose some of our natural hydration, it can become difficult to hold moisture in the skin and there is nothing to ‘lock’ hydration in.  This can also mean that we lose some of our own protective barrier too, which can make our skin more susceptible to reactions and irritation from our external environment.

So, how do we prevent this?

A healthy lipid barrier is the first step,

When our skins barrier is functioning well, we are able to lock in moisture and hydration, keeping the skin in balance and protecting our skin from harsh climates, irritation and sensitivity. Using a hydrator suited to your skin will help to maintain the skins barrier through those colder months. Our favourite hydrator for extra nourishment on the skin is O Cosmedics Comfort Cream. https://khhealthandbeauty.co.nz/shop/o-cosmedics-comfort-cream/

Hydrate,

Our skin produces hyaluronic acid to draw moisture into the skin, so increasing our levels of Hyaluronic acid will increase the skins ability to draw moisture in. Our O Cosmedics Hyaluronic Serum will give the skin that extra boost that it needs, delivering Hyaluronic direct into the skin cells to hydrate, plump and achieve healthy glowing skin.https://khhealthandbeauty.co.nz/shop/o-cosmedics-3d-hyaluronic-serum/

Adding a facial oil to your skincare,

During the cooler months for those drier skins. A high quality facial oil will give you that instant dewy glow, whilst helping to nourish and improve barrier function. An easily absorbed, lightweight facial oil that also provides anti-inflammatory properties to help inhibit skin irritation and sensitivity, making it an ideal choice for the nourishment of your skin. We like to boost our clients skin nourishment with O Cosmedic Youth Activating Balm.https://khhealthandbeauty.co.nz/shop/o-cosmedics-youth-activating-oil-balm/
